Smith Story Wine Cellars Reaches Funding Goal within 30 Days on Kickstarter.com

150 Kickstarter.com Backers Donate $26,001 for Harvest 2014 Grape Contracts

Santa Rosa, CA – September 2, 2014 –  Russian River Valley based Smith Story Wine Cellars was founded earlier this year by wine business veterans Eric and Ali Story. Through Kickstarter.com, a website dedicated to "a new way to fund and follow creativity," Eric and Ali shared their story and invited supporters to join them in giving birth to their new winery. “We hit our 30-day Kickstarter goal a few hours before the deadline on Labor Day. It was so thrilling to see the generosity of others help us reach our goal of $25,000, only 42% of all Kickstarter campaigns are successful, so we are pumped!,” says Ali Smith-Story, Co-Owner.

“We are working with 7 vineyards, 7 families who farm and shepherd the vines for us, Kickstarter funding allows us to honor our family growers first during our inaugural harvest together, the vineyards are our most crucial and precious partner.” says Eric Story, Co-Owner of Smith Story Wine Cellars.

Harvest began very early for Smith Story Wine Cellars, along with Co-Winemakers Katy Wilson and Ross Cobb, August was spent in the vineyards, then sorting grapes and pressing at Vinify Wine Services during the last week of the Kickstarter campaign.  Ali and Eric shared harvest happenings through Kickstarter.com Updates: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/837539083/smith-story-wine-cellars/posts

“The excitement of the campaign all month was thrilling, we heard from wine drinkers all over the world who supported us not only through Kickstarter.com, but also through our website and social media channels. The Smith Story Wine Cellars website stats hit record highs. Interesting to learn that our 150 Backers are an eclectic mix of wine industry professionals, friends & family members, general wine consumers and a surprising amount of people who follow our family dog - Lord Sandwich online @sandwichthedoodle on Instagram. We are blown away by the outpouring of encouragement and support by hundreds who’ve helped spread the word about our Kickstarter campaign and also donated, we are so grateful to them all.” says Ali. “Eric and I are hard at work fulfilling Kickstarter Rewards that our Backers will receive this Fall and throughout 2015 for their donations to our campaign”.

Kickstarter Campaign Launches for a Sonoma County Winery’s Inaugural Harvest Needs

Smith Story Wine Cellars Going for Crowdfunding to Pay Farmers First.

Santa Rosa, CA – August 1, 2014 – Russian River Valley based Smith Story Wine Cellars was founded earlier this year by wine business veterans Eric and Ali Story. Through Kickstarter, a website dedicated to "a new way to fund and follow creativity," Eric and Ali are sharing their vision and inviting supporters to join them in giving birth to a new winery this year. “As far as we know, we’re the first winery in Sonoma County to utilize a Kickstarter Campaign to help with start-up costs, so this is going to be fun to promote and raise awareness of our dear grape growers on many levels.” says Ali Smith-Story, Co-Owner.

Ali and Eric have placed highest priority on the list of start-up costs on Kickstarter.com in attempt to raise $25,000 in 30 days to pay their farmers first. “I’ve been a huge supporter of crowd funding sites over the years, and it’s allowed me to help over a dozen businesses, based in less than ideal countries, to thrive as entrepreneurs. Kickstarter is a perfect fit for us since we are capable of implementing our business plan and selling the wine we produce, the startup cost is the real challenge we face.” says Ali.

“Our heart is in the vineyards; Ali comes from a farming family in Texas and understands how the farmers and producers rely on each other to create a sustainable business together. Plus, there’s no better feeling than the rush we get spending time with our vineyard growers and farmers. It is very important to us to pay our contracts on time this very first harvest and, every harvest moving forward, for Smith Story Wines.” says Eric Story, Co-Owner of Smith Story Wine Cellars.

Kickstarter Backers have a choice to donate on few levels starting as little as $5 to $3400 or more.  Backers receive a variety of rewards stemming from a photograph of a vineyard to a hefty reward that includes naming a barrel of wine, a catered lunch in a vineyard with Eric and Ali along with a set of Zalto, hand-blown Austrian wine glasses. Here is the Smith Story Wine Cellars Kickstarter link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/837539083/smith-story-wine-cellars

Kickstarter campaigns operate under an “all-or-nothing” funding model so if the Smith Story Wine Cellars campaign doesn't reach its goal at the end of 30 days the backers will not be charged and Smith Story Wine Cellars will receive nothing. To follow their project, find them on Twitter and Instagram (@smithstorywines) and their website www.smithstorywinecellars.com in hopes of supporters spreading the word to social media networks.

May 14, 2014 Press Release: Wine Business Veterans Couple Up and Launch Smith Story Wine Cellars

Wine Business Veterans Couple Up and Launch Smith Story Wine Cellars

The Debut of Smith Story Wine Cellars to begin Harvest 2014

Santa Rosa, CA – May 14, 2014 - Nearing 30 years of combined wine business experience, wine pros Eric Story (Redwood City, California native) of K&L Wine Merchants and wife Alison Smith (Fort Worth, Texas native) owner of TexaCali Wine Co. announce the launch of Smith Story Wine Cellars, wines produced from beloved varietals and local vineyard sites throughout Northern California.  “Drink what you love, love what you drink. This is our Story. Our simple winery slogan sums up our wine sensibilities from the very beginning,” say Eric and Alison.

“This is such an exciting time for California wine, we couldn’t wait any longer to join in with all the new passionate & hardworking wine producers. Our plan honestly began in 2003 when we met, both working together at K&L Wine Merchants and spending weekends in the Anderson Valley. Eric was involved with planting a new vineyard in Philo, where we spent hours discussing our future dreams together over German Riesling bottles from the 70’s.” says Co-Founder Alison Smith. “Over the many years of buying wine, traveling nonstop through wine regions both domestically and internationally and tasting thousands of wines over the last decade, we’re putting our wine business skills where our heart has always been, producing wines with meaning from the best possible vineyard sites we’ve grown to adore and are inspired by in California.” said Eric Story.

Today marks the 1 Year Wedding Anniversary for Eric and Ali after eloping on the Big Island of Hawaii last May 14, 2013.  The name “Smith Story Wine Cellars” was conceived while in Hawaii and the brand and business plan has been in careful development over the past 12 months. Smith Story Wine Cellars are produced under the skillful watch of world-renown winemakers Katy Wilson (of LaRue Wines) and Ross Cobb (of Cobb Wines) where they will craft Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Rosé, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon at Vinify Custom Crush in the heart of the Russian River Valley.

“Our partnership began after discussing their vision, it’s rare to know wine professionals who understand all sides of the fine wine business. Their experience coupled with their extreme passion for creating a sustainable winery and brand already puts them leaps and bounds ahead,” says winemaker Ross Cobb. “It’s been a pleasure to walk the vineyards with Eric and Ali and feel their heartfelt vision for Smith Story Wine Cellars. We are both excited and honored to shepherd the grapes and lead with our expertise in the cellar this upcoming harvest,” Katy Wilson, co-winemaker.
